What Actually Changed — July 1, 2025

Schools can now pay athletes directly up to $20.5M per year. 319 D1 schools (82%) opted in. This is NOT NIL — it's a direct salary from the school.

Revenue Sharing vs NIL

Revenue Sharing is direct payment from the school. NIL is money from outside brands — endorsements, social media, appearances. Both now exist and are separate.

What to Ask Every School

Ask every school: What is the guaranteed revenue share amount? Is it tied to playing time? Total package = scholarship + room & board + revenue share + NIL collective.

How Roster Limits Changed Everything

All D1 sports are now equivalency. Football: 105 roster limit, 85 equivalencies. Basketball: 15 roster. Coaches split money any way they choose. Some athletes with verbal offers lost spots when schools adjusted rosters before July 1.
